I went into Daniel Parsley's office. We went through each of my trades. I think he saw my sorrow as well as my deep desire to get better..... to become great. I know you've been putting in the work, but unlike what we're taught in life.... just because you work harder doesn't mean you'll get better. We spoke a little while about his thoughts on the psychology of a trader and discussed Christmas plans. And then he said something that stabbed my heart. There are more important things than trading. I cringed, and he kept talking. At this time, I started my mental escape and the only thing I could've thought was, "Why am I trading?"
Why am I trading? Is it the money? Not necessarily. Is it the lifestyle of wearing PJs to work? No, I enjoy looking good. What is it? The next few words I remembered from Daniel were, "I challenge you to let go of work..... spend time with your family and let trading come to you. Forget the blogs, charts, and 2011 goals. Just let it all go." Why am I trading? If I ought to find any immeasurable amount of success and real value for the development of trading, I'll need to understand the reward.
I close my eyes and here's what my heart is telling me:
- Mom needs you to succeed. You owe it to her.
- You can't fail. Think about all the people that have been discouraging. Don't let go.
- I like trading. It makes me happy.
- If I quit now, it'll be okay for all of my future peers to quit.
- You're almost there.
- Your success will help lots of people.
