- Sacrifice is the ability to discipline yourself, to delay gratification in the short term so you enjoy far greater rewards in the long term.
- Do you do what's hard but necessary? or what's fun? Which will you do? Successful people have the ability to do things when it needs to be done.
- It takes 21 days to develop a new habit. Practice self-discipline everyday without exception.
- Herbert Gray's common denominator of success - "successful people make a habit of doing what unsuccessful people don't like to do."
- There are 9 disciplines that you can develop to better your life:
- Clear Thinking - the quality of your thinking determines the quality of your choices.
- You need to take time to think. Fast decisions are usually wrong decisions.
- Solitude is sometimes needed. Sit quietly for 25-30 minutes for the mind to clear.
- Write your problems and all of its details on paper. Stay objective.
- Be open to new ideas and possibilities.
- Daily Goal Setting - focus and concentration are pertinent for success.
- If you can't focus or concentrate, you will work for someone who will focus and concentrate for you (your manager).
- Use a spiral notebook to write down your goals every morning.
- Always use personal voice, present tense, and positive tones.
- Daily Time Management - every minute spent in planning saves 10 minutes in execution.
- Begin your day with a list of everything you need to do (do it the night before) today.
- Never do a B task, when you have an A task undone. Do important things first.
- Courage - the ability to confront your fears and overcome them.
- Confront your fears for what it does for your character.
- Tell yourself, "I can do it," every time repeatedly.
- Excellent Health Habits - become the best mental image of yourself.
- Design your perfect body and work towards that image.
- "Eat less and exercise more." Best time to exercise is in the morning.
- Drink 8 glasses of water a day to wash all the impurities away.
- Eat only fruits, vegetables, and protein. No coke, pasta, dessert, salt, etc.
- Visit your doctors regularly and keep up with your health.
- Regular Savings & Investing - providing for yourself financially and being independent.
- Successful people hate debt. Millionaires never buy new cars.
- Instead of liking to spend money, rewire your mentality to enjoy saving money.
- The rule for financial independence is to save 10-20% of your income, then invest.
- Develop the habit of living off of less than what you're paid - save the rest.
- Delay and defer major buying decisions - "30 day" rule, make better decisions.
- 2/3 of all success in investing or business is avoiding mistakes.
- Pay all purchases with cash when possible and use your cards as little as possible.
- Hard Work - developing a reputation as a hard worker.
- Most millionaires worked 60-70 hours a week for years before they broke through.
- Work all the time you work. When you go to work, work. Don't waste a minute.
- No matter what distractions come up, think " back to work."
- Start one hour earlier. Stay one hour later. Be the one to turn off the lights.
- Continuous Learning - to earn more, you need to learn more (new knowledge and skills).
- Work at least as hard on yourself as you do on your work.
- Reading 50 books a year is equivalent to receiving a Ph.D in your field.
- Take extra courses and attend seminars. Look for one new idea/technique.
- Persistence - the greatest test of self-discipline is when you face diversity and drive forward.
- Courage has 2 parts: the courage to begin and the courage to endure.
- Self-discipline leads to self-esteem, which leads to a happier and healthier life.
